All You Should Know About Fantasy And Adventure Novels For Teenagers

By Melanie Duncan

Literary fantasy and adventure novels are defined by two distinct genres that have shaped over the years and developed large readerships and some of the most widely read books in the world. They can be seen as two separate genres, and are most often combined to produce stories of epic proportions. There many different types of books that are categorized under both genre, and have developed into a popular choice for teenagers.

Fantasies are stories that revolve around the use of magic and supernatural forces of many kinds. Imagination is a big part of this genre, with the setting almost always being an imaginary world of some sort. Though most tales are primarily medieval, they also largely consist of wizards, witchcraft, sorcery and fairy tales.

You will often find that novels of this kind will often be compared to those in the science-fiction genre. They are similar, but the main difference is that scientific theory does not crop up in the former. In the same way, fantasies can be compared to horror novels, though do not consist of macabre themes. All three are subgenres of speculative fiction.

On the other hand, adventure novels' main purpose is to supply the reader with enhanced levels of excitement by filling the book's world with risk, exploration and an elevated level of danger. This will draw the reader into the story effectively. Though fantasies use the imagination to fuel the story, stories that deal with adventures rely on the reader's increase in adrenaline and sense of risk.

Both genres allow the protagonist in the story to experience a series of events outside of the everyday life of the reader. One takes readers into a world of mythical happenings that push the imagination to its limits. The other will form a level of risk, experience and exploration that is not usually witnessed or felt in reality.

Both fantasy and adventure books have been produced for many decades. They both function to take readers out of his world and into a new one. Saying this, they are both different and should be checked out before you settle with a favourite.
