Vibration Analysis Can Protect Your Machinery From Significant Malfunctions

By Tamara E. Hayland

When it comes to monitoring and maintenance of equipment, many companies are turning to a method called vibration analysis. The basic idea behind this type of analysis is that monitors use the vibrations in the machines to detect any changes or inconsistencies. This information can be put to use to identify medium developed damage, impending final failure, or misaligned or out of balance parts inside the machine. Companies are able to detect problems much sooner than with other types of analyzers because these are very accurate.

When the components are starting to wear out and are sustaining some damage this means that they have medium developed damage. While they are still functioning for the time being, it will not be long until they break completely. The method known as vibration analysis can be used to detect the parts that are starting to wear out so that they can be easily located and replaced. Replacing parts before they are totally broken means that you reduce the risk of having to deal with a more serious problem down the line.

If there are parts to the machine that are impending final failure then this means that they are very close to the ends of their functional lives. This might be in reference to the entire machine, or it might just be one area of the machine. You won't be caught off guard by the surprise of replacing a machine or making a major repair since you will know ahead of time that this is coming. Getting this data means that you can plan and budget accordingly.

If there are parts that are misaligned or out of balance, then you will be able to detect these with vibration analysis. The vibrations produced when parts are not in the proper arrangement will be different than when they are in the proper place. Before the equipment can endure medium developed damage or reach impending final failure, the proper adjustments can be made to put them back in their right places.

Companies will use a machine monitoring system to save themselves time and funds regarding the maintenance of their machinery. The process of vibration analysis has the capacity to detect a wider range of problems a lot earlier than other devices that might be used. Before a larger problem takes place, you can identify medium developed damage and out of balance parts that need to be repaired and replaced. When the equipment is about to reach the end of its usable life, the vibrations can be used to detect it. With this type of information you can plan ahead for any issues or repairs that may come up.
