What Are The Uses Of Gas Turbines?

By Anne Miles

Electricity generation has come a long way ever since it was invented over two centuries ago. If it were not for British scientist Michael Faraday's finding of how electricity flows and works, people will not be enjoying the comforts and convenience of modern appliances. Faraday's process is still being applied today, which involves transferring electricity through a wire loop or through the use of magnets. While it may seem basic and easy, the advent of technology has made the process more specialized with the use of devices. Gas turbines belong to these machines.

Gas turbines are considered as a type of internal combustion engine that make use of rotating compressors, a combustion chamber in its heart, and a downstream motor. Gas turbines basically work when high pressure will cause the fuel to ignite in the combustion chamber. The energy and products created through this process are propelled into the turbine, turning the blades, which in turn powers the compressor. The end-product is the electrical energy people use.

Gas turbines are recognized to be utilized in jet engines, turbo propellers, tanks and train engine. One of the most popular uses of gas turbines, however, is as an emergency generator. The parts of gas turbines used as a power generator though is much heavier and stronger than those utilized in aero-parts.

This gas turbine can be removable or can come in the form of large systems. Among the different electricity generators, gas turbines are considered to be up to 60 percent efficient in creating energy and conserving it.

Many hardware shops and industrial warehouses proffer turbine generators for hire to consumers and large companies. Customers could always assemble their own gas turbines if they have the know-how, although it would obviously be time-consuming and ruinous of resources when not done properly. If the budget won't allow them to buy one, consumers could simply rent temporary turbines from the said shops and the personnel would gladly bring the gas turbine to them and set it up. The assembly would take a number weeks and not as long as how it requires to construct a power plant.
